The WireGuard generator is only available for Premium customers. Freemium users can use Wireguard only through the PrivadoVPN app
Important: Premium account supports up to 10 connections. As a result, downloading more than 10 configuration files will deactivate older configurations, downloaded before these 10.
NOTE: WireGuard® VPN support is available for current-generation FRITZ!Box devices running FRITZ!OS version 7.39 or later. To check your router's firmware version, visit the official FRITZ!Box website or access the Dashboard through your router's web interface.
1. Log in to your Privado Admin area, navigate to the Dashboard tab, scroll down the page to 'Manual Configuration', and select 'Wireguard'.
Select your preferred server, click the 'Generate configuration' button, and download the generated Wireguard configuration file.
For detailed instructions on generating and downloading the WireGuard configuration, please refer to this article:
2. Next, access your router's web interface by entering the router's gateway IP address into the address bar of your preferred browser. The default IP is usually http://192.168.178.1
If that doesn’t work, use the emergency IP address: http://169.254.1.1.
3. If you are setting up the FRITZ!Box for the first time, you need to set up your MyFRITZ! address first:
- Click on "Internet" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
- Select "MyFRITZ! Account" from the "Internet" menu.
- Enter your email address in the "Your email address" field.
- Click "Apply." MyFRITZ!Net will send you an email with a confirmation link for your FRITZ!Box.
- If you do not receive an email, it may have been classified as spam, so be sure to check your spam folder.
- Open the email from MyFRITZ!Net.
- Click the "Register Your FRITZ!Box" button in the email.
4. Setting Up a WireGuard connection on the FRITZ!Box:
- Click on "Internet" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
- Select "Permit Access" from the "Internet" menu.
- Go to the "VPN (WireGuard)" tab.
- Click the "Add Connection" button.
- Choose "Connect networks or establish special connections," then click "Next."
- When prompted, select "Yes" for "Has this WireGuard connection already been set up at the remote connection?"
- Click "Next."
- In the "Name of the WireGuard connection" field, enter a unique name for the connection (e.g., My PrivadoVPN).
- Click the "Choose File" or "Browse..." button.
- Select the WireGuard configuration file that you downloaded from your PrivadoVPN account and click "Open."
- Check the option "Send all IPv4 network traffic via the VPN connection."
- If you want to limit internet access via the VPN to certain devices, enable the option "Only certain devices in the home network are to be accessible over this WireGuard connection" and select the appropriate devices.
- Click the "Finish" button.
- If prompted, confirm on the FRITZ!Box that the procedure can be executed, then click "OK" to complete the setup.
Now your VPN connection is established, and the FRITZ!Box is connected to the PrivadoVPN.
